About the event
Take raised beds to the next level with Hügelkultur! Hügelkultur can be translated as “mound culture”—in which plants or crops are grown on raised beds with a mounded shape and form. Many swear that it takes raised beds to the next level.
Put simply, hugelkultur is a centuries-old, traditional way of building a garden bed from rotten logs and plant debris. These mound shapes are created by marking out an area for a raised bed, clearing the land, and then heaping up woody material (that’s ideally already partially rotted) topped with compost and soil. This is an excellent way to compost, feed your intentional plants, create a closed loop system, and get better crops!
Hügelkultur is popular with gardeners who have struggled with heavy clay and poor or compacted soil, which is why here at re:Source we are starting out this way. We have acid, clay heavy, rocky soil, and also 12 acres of forest with many downed trees. Hügelkultur to the rescue! It is a good way to build up a planting bed and turn woody debris into a garden.
Join us as we build our first beds and prepare what is less desireable land into a fertile oasis! Learn the technique in person, or become a patron and get access to our video library as we build our farm and video library! We video all our hands-on classes!
